Worth seeing
Attractions in the area
Białka Valley
Mountain tourism
Numerous trails at the mouth of the Białka Valley allow you to reach destinations such as Morskie Oko, Zakopane, Małe Ciche, Rysy, and the Five Polish Ponds Valley. Along the Polish-Slovak border runs a blue trail that leads to Rohatka (2290 m), Polski Grzebień (2200 m), the "Zbójnicka Chata" shelter, and (after 11-12 hours of walking) the town of Tatranská Lomnica.
Gęsia Szyja Viewing Point
Mountain tourism
From Rusinowa Polana, a green trail heads west towards Gęsia Szyja (1490 m above sea level), known as an excellent viewpoint offering panoramic views of "a hundred peaks and passes," especially the Belianske Tatras and the High Tatras.
Caterpillar Hall
Mountain tourism
Hala Gąsienicowa is the most famous (northern) part of the Gąsienicowa Valley, which includes, among others, the renowned Gąsienicowe Ponds in the Dry Water Valley, the "Betlejemka" training base for mountaineers, research, observation, and measurement stations of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, the TPN forest lodge, and the PTTK Murowaniec shelter.
Kasprowy Wierch
Mountain tourism
Kasprowy Wierch is not particularly difficult to summit on foot. Steep, inaccessible rocks form only a part of the northern wall, while the approach from the other slopes does not require advanced skills.
Orla Perć
Mountain tourism
Such an expedition should be undertaken only by individuals with sufficient experience and skills, properly equipped with the right gear, clothing, and supplies. The route is about 3.7 km long, with an elevation gain and loss of approximately 350 meters – definitely the most challenging and one of the most dangerous trails in the entire Polish Tatras.
Rusinowa Polana
Mountain tourism
On Rusinowa Polana, long wooden benches and a few shepherd's huts, reminiscent of the region's past, await tired tourists. During the season, it can get rather crowded here, so you might have no choice but to lie down on the green grass.
Tatra Valley
Mountain tourism
A comfortable, paved road, closed to ordinary car traffic, runs through the valley – those who need to save their legs can cover part of the route by a highlander's carriage. From the Fish Stream Valley, you can go further to Rysy, Mięguszowiecka Pass under Chłopkiem, to the Valley of Five Ponds or via the so-called Ceprostrada to Szpiglasowy Wierch and to Chałubiński's Gate.
Giewont
Mountain tourism
The most distinctive peak in the Polish Tatra Mountains, crowned by a 15-metre high iron cross. Not particularly high (1895 m above sea level). The Giewont ridge consists of three summits – Wielki Giewont, Mały Giewont (1728 m), and Długi Giewont (1876 m) stretching over an area of 2.7 kilometres.
Red Peaks
Mountain tourism
The mostly grass-covered, gentle, rounded ridges of the Czerwone Wierchy (Red Peaks) attract tourists and are not too strenuous a mountain trail. The name Czerwone Wierchy comes from the colouration of the slopes, due to a plant that grows here – *Juncus squarrosus* – which turns a beautiful red colour as early as the end of summer.
Rysy
Mountain tourism
Anyone who wishes to stand on the highest peak in the Polish Tatras should trudge from Morskie Oko along the red tourist trail to Rysy; every year Rysy experiences a veritable tourist siege. A majestic mountain, guaranteeing the most magnificent panoramas that can be admired in the Tatras.
Valley of the Five Ponds
Mountain tourism
Morskie Oko is a good starting point for hiking in the Tatra Mountains, as many tourist trails lead from it, including the blue one through Świstowa Czuba (1763 m) and the yellow one through Szpiglasowa Pass (2114 m) to the Valley of Five Polish Lakes (1625–1900 m).
Olczań-ski Ski Resort
Winter sports
Easy routes, designed for beginners and intermediate recreational skiers. Naturally, on site, you can use the services of a few ski and snowboard schools, as well as rent or have equipment professionally prepared.
Rusiń-Ski
Winter sports
Most of the runs have been marked as blue – easy and suitable even for beginners – but there are also red sections, which are significantly more challenging. A sports run, with slalom poles set up, is located on such a slope. There are 5 ski lifts operating on the slopes: a button lift for learning children, two platter lifts, and two chairlifts: a four-seater and a six-seater, the latter with a cover for protection against wind and precipitation.
Kotelnica Białczańska Ski Resort
Winter sports
Kotelnica Białczańska stretches across the slopes of three consecutive mountains, and practically forms one whole with Kaniówka and Bania Ski & Fun - one TatrySki skipass is enough for skiing on the slopes of these three, as well as six relatively nearby ski resorts.
Kaniówka Ski
Winter sports
Within Kaniówka, there are 4 ski routes, served by 5 ski lifts. The slopes are generally easy and beginner-friendly – there's also a ski school. Experienced skiers looking for serious sporting challenges will likely feel like they're warming up here.
GrapaSki Black Mountain
Winter sports
A welcome change from skiing or snowboarding is offered by a specially shaped snow tubing run. At GrapaSki, there is also a ski kindergarten, equipment service and rental, as well as two catering establishments.
JurgówSki
Winter sports
Two of the four button lifts operate on easy, typically beginner-friendly slopes, 120-210 metres in length. The other two button lifts run alongside longer (400-750m) slopes, which require some proficiency and fitness.
Bania Ski & Fun
Winter sports
With the youngest winter sports enthusiasts in mind, Bania Ski & Fun is creating a special zone of attractions: the Winter Village. Traditionally, it includes an inflatable park, a giant igloo, a tyre carousel, a designated sledging slope, loungers, an indoor cinema, and a gaming arcade zone.
Bukowina Culture Centre, Franciszek Ćwiżewicz Folk Home
Architectural monuments
In summer, the biggest draw is the "Sabałowe Bajania" held in August, which is a national competition for storytellers, folk instrumentalists and singers, as well as a competition for wedding masters' speeches. The festivals are accompanied by numerous exhibitions of artistic achievements of folk artists, performances by amateur theatre groups, artistic plein-air painting, and tasting of regional dishes.
Church of St. Michael the Archangel
Architectural monuments
The historic Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Dębno is open to tourists only in groups. From the beginning of May to the end of October, on strictly defined days and times, while outside the season, visits will only be possible by prior arrangement by telephone.
St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Niedzica
Architectural monuments
According to some sources, the first church was erected on this site at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, however, that sanctuary – like the whole of Niedzica – almost completely burned down as a result of a Tatar raid in 1287. The new Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle was built of stone, in the Gothic style.
Sabała's cottage
Architectural monuments
The oldest Highlander cottage in all of Podhale. A historic, wooden cottage built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, probably the only one in all of Podhale still maintained in the old Silesian-Spiš style. The family home of Jan "Sabała" Krzeptowski still retains the atmosphere of bygone days.
Mountain Riding Centre
Summer sports
Definitely one of the most interesting places for lovers of relaxing in the saddle – also for those who would like to start their equestrian adventure. Bukowiński GOJ is run by passionate individuals with the proper qualifications. They offer various lessons for beginners, trail rides and treks, various camps and equestrian exams, and corporate integration events.
Tatras Rope Park
Summer sports
A sporty, typically summer attraction for the whole family – but interesting options can also be found in winter. The basis, however, are tracks full of various obstacles suspended a good few metres above the ground. In Białka’s “Tatra Mountains”, 3 routes have been prepared – “Forest Gnomes” for small children, the fairly easy “Adventure”, and the difficult “Extreme” – and an 8-metre climbing wall.
